Glion Institute of Higher Education Switzerland offers an extensive education that combines general knowledge and personal development with the study of hospitality, event, sport and entertianment management techniques. This type of education permits students to take up the challenges of their future in this vast and fast growing industry. Students attending GIHE come from every corner of the globe. Once they have completed their studies, these professionals of the trade enter their career with confidence and life long lasting skills.
Taught at our two campuses, Glion and Bulle, the academic courses of GIHE perpetuate the great Swiss Hospitality tradition and ethos. At a time of economic globalisation and with the proximity offered by the Internet, modern teaching methods must, however, offer more than studies centred around the purely technical aspects of a profession.
The programmes offered by Glion Institute of Higher Education are the fruit of these considerations. Beyond the in-depth study of Hospitality / Event, Sport and Entertainment management techniques, it also includes an extensive programme focusing on entrepreneurial issues and personal development. These courses widen the students' cultural horizons, notably by training them to engage in contextualised thinking - a factor that is essential for gaining a solid grasp of an industry in constant evolution.
GIHE's academic programmes are divided in three major pathways: professional development, entrepreneurship and general education. These are taught in an environment which encourages critical thinking and develops an aptitude for innovation thus responding to the concrete needs of the hospitality and tourism as well as event, sport and entertainment sectors in the future.
This unique type of education allows students to anticipate the wishes and habits of their customers. They are initiated into the subtle art of resolving problems while bearing in mind the context in which it occurs. Students will develop their professional capacities, but also their personality, and will gain awareness of their social role as a citizen.
Glion Institute of Higher Education also places considerable emphasis on the commercial responsibility of its students as future managers called upon to develop companies and to ensure they are profitable. At GIHE, they learn to learn. They assimilate and integrate past practices in order to re-think them, in order to innovate and adapt to changes - the only constant factor of tomorrow's hospitality and sport management.
By preparing these young students to engage in adult, constructive thinking, Glion Institute of Higher Education is not claiming to be re-inventing the trade. However, the professionals it trains will be the craftsmen and craftswomen of a new philosophy for hospitality that integrates not only all facets of traditional management, but also the economic, human and cultural aspects fore grounded by the globalisation which characterises our times. This is also reflected by the various tracks we offer to our students in the Bachelor Degree programmes as they are dictated by the industry.
In its pursuit of continuous excellence and improvement, Glion Institute of Higher Education has also upgraded its accreditation from the Commission on Technical and Career Institutions (CTCI) degree granting to the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) degree granting. The Commission falls under the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in the United States. NEASC is a regional accreditation agency for over 200 colleges and universities in the six New England states as well as for several overseas institutions. Some of the most famous US Ivy league universities are accredited by NEASC. It is recognized by the US department of Education and by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation as being a reliable authority on the quality of institutions of higher education. It serves the dual purposes of quality assurance and quality improvement.
Faculty members of Glion Institute of Higher Education follow the development of each individual student with great care. Since they are provided with a high level of support throughout their studies, students will not feel unable to cope when leaving the School. In fact, the beginning of their professional activities will coincide with their entrance into the circle of the Glion Alumni Association. This international association for Glion graduates is a valuable asset for the harmonious development of their career. It often happens that graduates obtain their first job through a Glion Alumni. However, our career placement office offers an invaluable support to our students by inviting international hotel chains, hospitality and tourism, sport and leisure companies or organisations to present themselves and interview students during their last semester.
Glion Institute of Higher Education thus remains more than ever a worthy representative of the virtues behind the reputation of the traditional aspect of the trade. However, it is not losing sight of the fact that the stability of an institution stems from constant renewal and evolution. By proposing up-to-date and adapted programmes, it remains faithful to its vocation of promoting excellence within all sectors of hospitality, tourism, sport, Entertainment and event management.
