ACO Winter Meeting

29/01/2009

On Thursday, 29th January 2009 about 70 students from schools in the Bremen region attended an American Colleges Overseas information event. Thirteen ACO representatives were in Bremen for the annual ACO Winter Meeting hosted by Jacobs University Bremen:

This was a unique experience for most local German students who are not at all familiar with the concept of direct contact with university representatives. After an optional tour of Jacobs University’s campus, they attended a presentation informing them about alternatives to the known public German higher education systems and the ACO network. The US-styled application process and information on fees and financial support was mostly new information for the majority of public high school students. During the mini-fair after the presentation most students made the most of the opportunity to ask specific questions about the individual ACO universities, their study programs, application requirements, financial aid, scholarships, clubs, etc. and to collect information material.

Germany has a high procentage of students going abroad for studies at both the high school and university level. This is reflected by the great interest from local school students to attend an event about study abroad options. The feedback from teachers, parents and students who joined this ACO event was very positive - some even asking about future events like this in the region.
