Location

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University is located in Beppu City in Kyushu, the southernmost island of Japan’s four main islands. Kyushu has traditionally been a hub of international activity between Japan and the rest of the world.

Accreditations

APU is accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT).

Facilities

Opened in 2000, APU features modern facilities with numerous computer-equipped classrooms and study spaces. Four new buildings opened in 2007 provide more classroom and activity space. AP House is Japan’s largest international dormitory, featuring modern, single rooms with broadband internet, bathroom, and independent heating and cooling.

Activities

Over 120 organizations on campus in sports, cultural, and academic areas provide students a chance to make friends and learn from their fellow students in a multi-cultural environment. Homestays and traditional Japanese cultural activities are held throughout the year.

Year Tuition and Fees

Registration and Admission: 100,000 yen ($830)
Yearly Tuition: 1,300,000 yen ($10,800)
Estimated yearly living expenses: 900,000 yen ($7500)

Financial Aid

APU offers academic merit scholarships to qualified international students. These scholarships can reduce the cost of tuition from 30% to a full 100%. These scholarships can reduce a student’s financial burden dramatically. Scholarships are determined at the time of application based on an applicant’s demonstrated academic merit. U.S. Students will find that study at APU is often the same or less expensive than study at a university located in the U.S.!

Features

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University aims to bring students from all over the world to come study and live together. As of November 1, 2006, there are 2,220 international students at APU from 74 countries. Combined with 2,771 Japanese students, international students make up almost half of the student body. No other university in Japan features such a diverse student population. At APU, you can experience Japanese culture and language firsthand while at the same time meet people from all over the world.

Students at APU come from various cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. Everyone brings their own unique traditions and ideas to share. From special cultural events to our international cafeteria menu, APU has a truly unique atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else.

APU offers almost all its classes in both English and Japanese. This means Japanese language ability is not required to apply to APU. APU offers dual language education in Japanese and English. Graduates can expect to be fluent in Japanese at the end of their four years at APU. This is an invaluable asset for those interested in participating in the rapidly growing Asia Pacific region.
